“Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take you
Bermuda, Bahama come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego baby why don’t we go

Off the Florida Keys
There’s a place called Kokomo
That’s where you wanna go to get away from it all

Bodies in the sand
Tropical drink melting in your hand
We’ll be falling in love
To the rhythm of a steel drum band. . . ”
-Beach Boys

Kevin had spring break this past week so I took a week off from work to vacation in Key Largo. Kevin planned THE WHOLE trip and did a great job! Our trip was full of friendly faces, camping, snorkeling, sunshine, and food!

Day #1 – Brittany & Fort Lauderdale

The first day, we drove down to Fort Lauderdale and spent the night with a newly wedded college roomie of mine, Mrs. Brittany Arnett.

She took us to a restaurant near her house called Rosie’s Bar and Grill. Kevin and I were both craving hamburgers and Brit ordered the steak; food wasn’t the only reason we decided to dine there -it was a good place to people watch as there are many characters in the Fort Lauderdale area. We walked home while viewing a beautiful sunset.

Along the way we stopped a local candy store. The owner has imported candies from all over the world!

Dontcha just love the thumbs up?

Day #2 – Kayaking in the Everglades

The next morning, we drove to the most southern American State Park, The Everglades. Home to 6 ecosystems and a ga-zillion different animal and plant species, we spent our day in this beautiful state park… and mosquito free too! This time of the year is the best time to visit the Everglades because it is warm enough for water and boating activates but not warm enough for all the flying bugs to emerge from a winter’s dwelling.

We rented kayaks and kayaked around the water channels to view the wildlife.

Oh yeah, we were right next to this crocodile!

And we kayaked into the ocean.

After a wonderful day in the Everglades, we started the drive to our campsite in Key Largo.

The drive itself is breathtaking

To be continued. . .
